NC Free Legal Answers

NC Free Legal Answers is a time-limited, limited-service representation pro bono program. Questions generally take volunteer attorneys about 15-30 minutes to respond to, or perhaps an hour if an attorney wants or needs to do some additional research before providing an answer to a client’s question. Sort and filter features make it easy for volunteer attorneys to find questions that align with their particular practice areas or interests.

Volunteer attorneys can answer civil legal questions relating to 20+ legal categories on NC Free Legal Answers: Family/Divorce/Custody, Housing, Debts & Purchases, Work (Employment), Workers Compensation, Wills/Inheritance, Benefits, Health Care, Medicaid/Medicare/Affordable Care Act, Natural Disaster, Personal Injury, Expungement, Special Education, School Discipline, Immigration, Civil/Constitutional Rights, Emancipation & Delinquency, and Military/Veteran disability questions.

To get started, register as a volunteer attorney and browse the queue of questions. You may answer whatever and whenever you like. You have the option to set up an alert to be notified when questions come into the queue that are related to your selected areas of interest or practice. Your response is anonymous, confidential, and private (see Attorney AgreementAttorney FAQsResources).

The impact over the past year has been remarkable as NCBA attorneys are making an immense difference across the state. View the 2022 NC Free Legal Answers Report (PDF).
