Please note that you may not receive a referral immediately after signing up to serve as a volunteer — please be patient. We expect that NC residents affected by this disaster will have need for legal assistance for a year or more post-event.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to provide legal assistance to North Carolinians impacted by natural disaster. The North Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division coordinates the North Carolina Disaster Legal Services (DLS) effort in partnership with the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC), with support from the North Carolina Bar Foundation and the NC Pro Bono Resource Center and the NCBA Paralegal Division.

Note: you do not need to be a state bar certified specialist, just willing to provide lawyer-to-lawyer guidance on questions that may come up during the course of assisting a pro bono DLS client. Subject matter experts also may be invited to do trainings or CLE programs with the NCBA and/or LANC to support volunteer attorney engagement with the DLS program.
