Wills for Heroes Serves Raleigh Police Department

The North Carolina Bar Foundation held its first hybrid Wills for Heroes clinic on December 16-17, 2021. The clinic served 18 Raleigh Police Department first responders along with 6 of their spouses. Through the clinic, 10 volunteer attorneys prepared simple Wills, Health Care Power of Attorney, and Durable Power of Attorney documents while meeting virtually with the first responders and utilizing NCBF’s new Wills for Heroes app. Four estate planning lead volunteers fielded questions and reviewed final documents. First responders were then invited to pick up and sign their documents at a “drop-in” notary clinic held at the NC Bar Center in Cary.

The Wills for Heroes program is expanding in 2022 with the goal to hold 2-4 clinics every month in partnership with first responder units across the state. Details for upcoming clinics are being finalized and will be available on the Wills for Heroes program website soon. If you are interested in volunteering at an upcoming clinic, please complete the volunteer interest form .

Thank you to our 2021-22 Foundation Program Partners, and especially lead supporter Lawyers Mutual Liability Insurance Company of NC, for helping to make possible the Wills for Heroes program.
