The North Carolina Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that a Charlotte Area North Carolina COVID-19 Legal Hotline will take place on Thursday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the North Carolina Bar Foundation and Legal Aid of North Carolina in partnership with WBTV.

The Charlotte Area North Carolina COVID-19 Legal Hotline number is 704-630-7300.

Volunteer attorneys will provide free information and resources about issues related to housing, bills or debt, unemployment benefits, health insurance, personal safety, stimulus checks, and other matters affecting the health, well-being and financial security of households in the extended Charlotte area. Questions from small business owners and nonprofit leaders facing challenges due to COVID-19 will also be accepted.

Volunteer attorneys will provide brief legal help to callers regarding questions based on North Carolina or federal law, and will refer them other resources, if needed.

Attorney volunteers are needed to serve 2-hour shifts between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 16. Volunteers will take calls remotely, through a downloaded app on computer or mobile device. Register to volunteer here. If you are willing to volunteer for multiple shifts, please complete the registration process for each shift.

Incoming COVID-19 Legal Hotline calls will be answered by call screeners and directed through the app to volunteer attorneys for legal information and counsel within their areas of practice (please specify your practice area(s) in your registration). Informational materials and a legal resource directory will be provided.
