Scholarships and Law Student Grant Assistance

Grants to assist North Carolina lawyers experiencing financial hardship due to difficult circumstances, including medical, personal or professional challenges. Applications to the Fund are reviewed quarterly and the deadlines for consideration are March 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15. Applications are reviewed anonymously by members of the North Carolina Bar Foundation Endowment Committee. For more information, please email [email protected].
The NCBF maintains a purpose-restricted fund within its Endowment that provides support for financially needy NC law school students taking the NC bar exam. The Hubert B. Humphrey Scholarship program was established in 1988 as one of the first grant awards by the NCBF Endowment. Through this program, the NC Bar Association Young Lawyers Division makes annual scholarship awards to children or slain or permanently disabled North Carolina law enforcement personnel. This includes local police, sheriffs’ departments, highway patrol and other uniformed personnel. The scholarships are need-based and may cover room and board, tuition or books at colleges and technical schools.
The Inscoe Fund was established in 1994 through a bequest by Ms. Maude B. Inscoe to benefit worthy law students who have demonstrated financial need. Recipients of the Inscoe Scholarship should have demonstrated financial need and exemplify the values of the North Carolina Bar Foundation, which include: access to justice, service, civic education, professionalism, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
